November 18, 2009 – For more than 25 years, Southern Culture on the Skids has been specializing in a blend of honky-tonk and rockabilly music. With a devout following at a grass-roots level, the band just released its latest album, Countrypolitan Favorites, which was recorded in bandleader Rick Miller’s home studio, dubbed The Kudzu Ranch.
Here, lead singer and guitarist Miller, bassist and vocalist Mary Huff, standing drummer Dave Hartman and guitarist Tim Barnes tear through a set of fan favorites, including the title track to their 1995 major-label debut, Dirt Track Date.
To close out the set, Mountain Stage pianist Bob Thompson picks “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me,” from the Duke Ellington songbook.
